New Projects

Black card with words "a poem was here" cutout.

This card is from a current project called 52 Missing Poems. Each poem is cut out of a black 3X5 card. The rules I set for myself include:

(1) Text must fit on a single card.

(2) The fact that the text is cut, rather than printed, needs to add something to the meaning of the poem.

This format allows me to explore the themes of absence and negative space. The compressed space of the 3X5 card encourages experiments in minimalism and limit cases. How much work can a single sentence do? How much can a single word?
